Sarah’s Shenanigans: Getting up close with Aussie Stars during The Dressmaker filming

The sexiest man alive (or his brother, anyway), Liam Hemsworth. Picture: GETTY IMAGESYOU know how it goes.

You’ve had a bad day. You feel guilty about skipping the gym. And let’s face it, you’ve looked better.

All you want to do is whip into the supermarket and grab something for tea – okay, and maybe some chocolate and-or wine – without running into anyone you know.

This was me on Tuesday night, so naturally I ran into People’s Sexiest Man Alive.

Okay, technically it was his (possibly even better looking) brother.

But it was definitely a Hemsworth. In my local Coles.

I was perusing the poultry section when I caught a glimpse of someone familiar out of the corner of my eye.

On closer, yet subtle inspection, I realised it was Liam Hemsworth – clearly not someone I’d met through work or at the bar at the Bull.

Liam and his mate were in the same boat I was – trying to decide what to have for dinner.

It wasn’t until I left the supermarket – without approaching them, because who wants to be hassled while buying groceries? – that it dawned on me I probably should have invited them over for tea.

My former housemate Katelyn had a few choice words to say about my lack of hospitality.

Mail-Times journalist Sarah Scully and Horsham’s Katelyn Keller ran into Gyton Grantley outside The Exchange on Wednesday night.

She first heard about The Dressmaker filming in the Wimmera while she was overseas and was thrilled to discover she’d be back in time to stalk – I mean welcome – the cast.

After hearing of my almost-brush with Liam on Tuesday night, she set about star-spotting with the fervour of a 17-year-old One Direction fan who just discovered Harry Styles was in town.

And judging by my social media feeds during the past few days, she’s not the only one.

Wimmera residents have been quick to share selfies with the likes of Liam, Hugo Weaving, Gyton Grantley, Shane Jacobson and Rebecca Gibney.

But while most people are thrilled our Aussie celebs are so down to earth and friendly, there are still those hanging out to meet an Oscar winner.

That’s right, people want to know: Where is Kate Winslet?

According to Instagram, she is definitely in the Wimmera.

But apparently Oscar winners don’t hang out at Coles, or Kmart or with the cast and crew at the Exchange.

My fellow Mail-Times staff and myself were quick to grill our colleague Cass Dalgleish when she returned from the set on Wednesday.

She mentioned a run-in with Rebecca and eye contact with several others, but no Kate.

Meeting Kate would be great, but I think I’d rather have a wine with Bec.

Journalists Erin McFadden and Sarah Scully take a break at the 2013 Mail-Times Christmas party.

Apparently Bec – I’m pretty sure I’ve seen everything she’s ever been in, so I feel like we’re already friends – dropped by Moe’s Mexican Bar and Grill on Tuesday night.

Great choice, Bec.

In fact, we’re having our Christmas party upstairs at Moe’s on Saturday night.

So Bec, if you’re not busy – or Liam, if you’d allow me to make up for my lack of hospitality earlier in the week – feel free to drop by for a drink.
